In the middle of the night, after hours of hard work the circuit board is done and needs to be tested. You pull yourself to reach your old and loyal power supply by it's rusty and old handles. It's components well guarded by it's wooden panels and a little gap in the front that allows you to have a peek of it's inside. You grab the power cord and plug it in the socket. Plugging the power supply is not enough, you still have to turn it on by using it's rear power switch that lays next to the fuse that prevents the circuits to fry if an overcurrent happens to find it's way through the electrical system and ends in your power supply.
You turn on your power supply and the room fills with a soft electric buzz and with the power supply's light that comes through the front gap.
You stare for a while at the components and think "ah... those good old days using you power supply for everything you could" then you remember your work and start connecting the wires and turning the nobs to get the desired voltage.
As you measure the current, you notice something wrong in the readings. You unplug everything and proceed to check for the source of the problem. In order to open the wooden box, a little golden hook lock stand's in your way; as if it is guarding a treasure for those who are not worthy of it.
As you open the lid, the light from inside drives the darkness of the ceiling away. You take a look at it's components and take various readings...
There is no more doubt, your old friend has reached the end of the line. It has burned a component again, and the existence of it has vanished from everywhere as it was replace with new ones. There is nothing to do but say goodbye to your old friend. It has served well and as a treasure of time it will be kept, it will last forever with really good care.
